About Me

About Me

Hi my name is Alex and I am currently a student journalist at Curtin University's Western Independent.  I have a particular interest in local, national and world news as well as a keen interest in sports journalism. I like to think I am well organised and hard-working with a sense of humour and great communication skills. People can rely on me and would also say I am responsible and confident in completing tasks to the best of my ability and most importantly: to a deadline.

Despite being a student, I have managed t0 gather a variety of experience in the media and communications industry including in broadcast companies overseas. The start of 2020 saw me filming and editing news for Leeds Television in the UK as well as helping conduct interviews with the general public in the form of vox pops. I also spent some time at ITV with one of the senior journalists covering the administration of the once popular European airline Flybe. Covid-19 eventually cut my plans short and I headed back to Australia to begin my studies in journalism.

Since beginning my studies, I have had some of my work published on the Western Independent news site for Curtin University's student journalists and also achieved high grades for my work throughout the course. Some of these articles as well as a video can be viewed on the Featured Work page of this site.

On top of experience in video journalism, I also have an interest in Radio news. At the moment, I produce a radio show called Sports Drive on 91.3 SportFM hosted by Matt Grubelich. This role involves managing the radio station's Twitter page, calling interviewees, gathering audio for the show as well as cutting and editing the full show to be uploaded on to the website. I also occasionally provide a sports update during the show to listeners.

I am hoping to one day become a news presenter delivering a news program, bulletins or presenting sports programs.
